‘Confused’ writer wonders about VFD support

I have always been proud to say I live South of the River.

I have lived there for 38 years, served eight years as constable for South of the River and donated my time and efforts to the South of the River Volunteer Fire Department. I have never been paid for my services, because a volunteer cannot be paid, as they are priceless.

Some 25 volunteer firefighters South of the River expect no pay for what they do. They do it, simply for self-satisfaction and a good feeling inside.

I titled these notes as “confused,” and I will explain.
