‘Story That Was Never Told’ earns Conley writing honors

Roane County High School student Chelsea Sue Conley was honored in a writing contest in conjunction with
the 23rd annual Tennessee Mountain Writers Conference in Oak Ridge.

Contest winners in seven categories were announced and awards presented during the conference banquet.

Conley received third-place recognition in the Student Prose category for “The Story That Was Never Told.”

The 2011 conference featured principal workshop leaders Darnell Arnoult, fiction; Bill Brown, poetry; Evelyn Coleman, writing for young people; Jim Minick, nonfiction; and Chris Roerden, editing.

Banquet speaker was Chattanooga novelist Susan Gregg Gilmore.

This project was funded in part under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The 24th annual Tennessee Mountain Writers Conference will be March 29-31, 2012, in Oak Ridge DoubleTree Hotel. Conference and contest information, as well as a complete list of 2011 contest winners, will be posted on the group’s website, www.tmwi.org.

Tennessee Mountain Writers is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization that promotes Tennessee literary arts and supports the work of Tennessee writers.

Its goal is to provide opportunities for people interested in the craft of writing to become better writers.

Membership is open to all writers interested in furthering these objectives, regardless of geographic location.
