$5,000 grand prize offered in patriotic essay competition

Roane County public and homeschooled students in grades 7-12 are welcome to enter an Americanism-patriotism essay contest offered as part of the Kids on the Rise program of Crossville Fleet Reserve Branch 294.

“The Bill of Rights and Me” is the topic of the essay, which is part of a National Fleet Reserve Association contest offering a $5,000 grand prize.

The Crossville branch will present a minimum $50 grand prize for each grade winner.

Entries should be postmarked no later than Dec. 1 for judging on the branch level.

The themed essay should not exceed 350 words, and should be legibly written or typed on one side of a paper.

A student may submit only one entry each year.

Each entry must be accompanied by a separate sheet stating the entrant’s name, address, ZIP code, telephone number, school grade (or equivalent), name of the school or the words “home schooled” or “Kids on the Rise”, number of words in essay, and the sponsoring branch/unit or sponsor’s name.

Winning essays will be submitted to the regional FRA, which also offers a grand prize of all its received entries in the region.

Regional FRA essay winners will have their essays forwarded to national FRA, which will present a $5,000 grand prize for the winning essay.

All entries become the property of the Fleet Reserve Association.
