Sandra Alexander of Kingston, a registered nurse in the surgery department at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, was named February’s MMCer of the Month.
In her position, Alexander cares for surgery patients, organizes the surgery room and schedule, and provides assistance to her co-workers and surgeons.
Alexander has been with Methodist since 1991.
Alexander is described by Mickie White, nurse manager in the surgery department, as “a great employee!”
“Sandra strives to assist physicians and patients with efficiency … is the greatest at work organization … and has an impeccable work ethic,” White continued.
Alexander received two nominations for this award, from both a physician and a co-worker.
The physician who nominated Alexander said, “She is the ‘gold standard’ for OR nursing. She keeps my OR rooms running smoothly every single day.”
Alexander’s nomination from her co-worker said, “She puts the patients and doctors first to make them feel comfortable and at ease, thus ensuring their experience is as easy and efficient as possible …
she has been here a
long time and is one of the best nurses because she has a great understanding of her job and her environment.”
The nominating physician added, “She is a true ‘keeper’ and very deserving of MMCer of the Month. I would argue that she would be a good candi-date for MMCer of the Decade.”
When asked about receiving her award, Alexander said, “I was very surprised and was not expecting this award, but I am honored to have received it.”
Alexander lives in Kingston with her husband, Raymond. She has two grown children, Susannah and Joseph.
She attends High Ridge Baptist Church in Kingston, where she also teaches Sunday school.
In her spare time, Alexander enjoys collecting pigs, hiking, and reading-up on women’s health topics.
