Another young Roane resident gets new heart

Barely more than two weeks after a 12-year-old Roane County girl received a heart transplant, she’s getting company.

Mason Kelly, an 11-year-old Walnut Hill Elementary fifth-grader, was at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville Tuesday morning undergoing a heart transplant of his own.

His family got to Vanderbilt at 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to Carol Sensaboy, who works with Mason’s grandmother Rhonda Melton. Melton also made the trip to Nashville.
