Roane County Commission cleared the way for the school system to auction Walnut Hill and Dyllis elementary schools. A resolution passed on Oct. 15 granted the system any of the county government’s interest in the properties.
“The Roane County Commission authorizes the Roane County executive to execute any contract or deed to insure this transfer of interest either to the Roane County Schools or a new owner, if sold by the Roane County school system,” the commission resolution said.
Walnut Hill closed after the 2010-11 school year. Dyllis closed following the 2011-12 school year. Both schools are to be auctioned on Oct. 31 by Furrow Auction Co.
Dyllis, 510 Dyllis Road, Harriman, is subject to a minimum bid of $70,000. Walnut Hill, 215 Maple Street, Harriman, is subject to a minimum bid of $25,000.
Dyllis was originally built in 1949. Walnut Hill was built in 1953.
