The Roane County Board of Education voted 10-0 last week to give Director of Schools Gary Aytes a two-year contract extension.

Prior to the vote, Aytes had one-year left on a two-year contract that was set to expire on June 30, 2014.
With the extension the contract will run through June 30, 2016. Board Member Wade McCullough said the terms of the contract are not changing.
“It’s the same contract,” McCullough said. “It’s a two-year extension to June 30, 2016.”
The contract provides for a salary of $110,250 a year and benefits. It also provides for annual raises, a performance bonus of up to $15,000 each year and the use of a county vehicle.
Aytes served as the system’s elementary education supervisor prior to becoming the director of schools in 2012. He replaced Toni McGriff, who retired.
