After battling district rival Loudon to a 2-2 tie on Tuesday, the Kingston Lady Jackets soccer team rebounded well on Thursday with a 2-0 victory at Rockwood in another District 4 A/AA contest.

Brooke Bales played a major role in Kingston’s win as she scored the Lady Jackets first goal of the night then assisted on Kingston’s final goal of the evening.

Rockwood was the aggressor early on as Katie Cisson missed wide left early on then Brooke Boles missed on a shot from in front off a nice pass from Chelsea Cheek.

While Kingston didn’t have many chances in the early going, they did take advantage of one early scoring chance as Bales made a great move to split two Lady Tiger defenders then Bales shot across her body to beat a diving Darian Green for the first goal of the contest.

After Bales’ goal, Kingston picked up their attack on offense and controlled possession of the ball for much of the remainder of the first half.

Lady Jacket Madison Oran and Emily Ostrander would each have scoring chances from in close, but both of their shots would go over the net. Oran also put another shot on goal that was saved by Green.

Cisson would take a pair of good shots late in the half, but couldn’t find the back of the net as one shot sailed just wide right and the second shot was saved by Lady Jacket goalkeeper Erica Ostrander.

The second half opened with Skotti Bullington and Bales taking shots for Kingston, but neither would score.

The rest of the half turned into a defensive battle as Kingston looked to hold on to their slim lead.

Rockwood did have some scoring chances in the half as Carson Evans and Cheek each put solid shots on goal, but Erica Ostrander was up to the task.

With time winding down, Rockwood was hoping to tie the game on a corner kick, but the play proved disastrous for the Lady Tigers.

The ball said across the field where Bales gained possession for Kingston. Bales raced up the field and didn’t give the ball up until she hit Emily Ostrander with what proved to be the insurance goal for the Lady Jackets.

Kingston (4-1-2) will look to build on Thursday’s success this week as they host Anderson County on Monday, Greenback on Tuesday, and Seymour on Thursday.

Rockwood (5-2) hosts Scott on Tuesday, and will travel to Harriman on Thursday.
