Officials with Bank of America presented Mid-East Community Action Agency with a $10,000 contribution Dec. 3.
Jim Checolo, the consumer market manager for the Knoxville area, said Bank of America sets aside funds for charitable organizations each year. Decisions about where the money goes are made on the local level, however.
“So it’s not just one big corporation making these decisions,” Checolo said. “It’s based on the efforts that this charitable organization does in Roane County.”
Bank of America has a branch in Kingston and a branch in Rockwood. Melissa Payne, the banking center manager for the Rockwood branch, said Bank of America has given Mid-East a contribution for the last several years.
“We’re very proud of them,” Payne said.
Mid-East Executive Director Jerry Johnson said the funds will be used to deliver meals to homebound seniors and provide medical alert bracelets for homebound seniors.
“We help provide those devices, so if they are by themselves at home and they have an emergency, they can punch that button and get help,” Johnson said.
