Bethel Presbyterian honors Blue Star Veterans

-A A +A

Veterans Jack Muecke, left, and Joe Zirkle are among present and former military personnel recently honored by Bethel Presbyterian Church, Kingston.

The church had a special acknowledgement for Blue Star veterans from World War II.

A fabric hanging was made by the Ladies Aid Society following World War II to honor the Bethel veterans. The special piece includes the names of 21 heroes, including one woman, Irene Miles, a distant cousin of Edith Miles. Irene Miles was a driver for Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in France.

Muecke and Zirkle are among the only five living veterans honored in the hanging.

The others, who were unable to attend the special event, are Charles Zirkle, Alfred Kinser and Bruce Mahoney.

The original hanging was recently reframed.
