The Midway duo of Zach Edwards and Hayden Hester combined for seven hits, two home runs and 10 RBIs Wednesday  in leading the Green Wave to a 13-8 District 3-A road win at Greenback.

Although Midway scored 13 runs, they did start slow as they trailed 2-0 after three innings of play.

That all changed in the fourth inning, however, as Edwards singled then Hester homered to tie the game at 2-2.

Midway trailed 3-2 heading to the fifth inning, but the Green Wave came alive on offense and would lead 7-3 by the end of the frame.

The fifth inning started with three straight walks to Zach Brummitt, Logan Davidson and Christian Moore. Edwards then delivered the big blow of the game with a grand slam home run.

Hester followed by reaching on an error and he later scored on an error as Midway took the four-run lead.

The Green Wave blew the game open with five more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Davidson and Moore opened the inning then Edwards drove in Davidson with a single followed by a two-run single from Hester. Zach Qualls followed by reaching on an error then Shandon Lyle drove in Hester with an infield single. Qualls later scored on a double steal to make the score 12-3.

Greenback, however, did not go away quietly. The Cherokees answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within 12-8.

Midway did get an insurance run in the top of the seventh with Edwards drove in Davidson with a single. Davidson had reached safely on an error.

Greenback put two runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but there would be no late rally.

Edwards (5-5, 1 HR, 6 RBIs, 3 runs) and Hester (2-4, 1 HR, 4 RBIs, 3 runs) were Midway’s top hitters on the day.

Moore (6 IP, 8 hits, 1 BB, 8 Ks) picked up the victory on the mound.

Midway travels to Oneida on Friday.
