Medic Regional Blood Center is one of many area organizations eager to say goodbye to the cold doldrums of winter and welcome the warmth of spring.
“This winter has been brutal, and we have been playing catch up because of all the drives we have had to cancel due to inclement weather,” said Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokeswoman.
The area blood provider is hoping that warmer weather will bring a renewed interest on behalf of blood donors.
“We hope that this new season we see an upswing in our collections,” Fightmaster said.
Roane Countians can do their part by giving blood during a Harriman drive on March 21.
A Medic mobile unit will be at Lowe’s from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Donors are also welcome to give blood at Medic donor centers at 1601 Ailor Ave., Knoxville; or 11000 Kingston Pike, Farragut.
Donors must be 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more.
With parental consent, 16-year-olds weighing 120 pounds or more may donate blood. Consent forms can be found at any blood drive or online at www.medicblood.org.
All donors must present identification.
All donors will receive a free T-shirt and a coupon for a free appetizer.
Additional blood drive locations can be found at www.medicblood.org or by calling 524-3074.
Medic is the sole provider of blood for 22 counties and 28 area hospitals and depends on volunteer donors to meet the needs of the greater East Tennessee community.
