In their first meeting in November, Oakdale’s girls held Harriman to 34 points in picking up a 46-34 victory. Thirty-four was again the magic number for Oakdale as they downed Harriman 39-34 in their second meeting.

Harriman defeated Oakdale 73-39 earlier this season, and they won again Tuesday, but it wasn’t as easy as the Devils prevailed, 79-69.

Girls Game

Oakdale led from wire-to-wire in picking up the 39-34 victory.

The biggest run of the game came at the beginning as Oakdale scored the first 11 points and led 13-5 after eight minutes of play.

Only three players scored in the first period as Baley Pease (7 points) and Sierra Snow (6 points) scored for Oakdale while Jadah Gallaher scored all five points for Harriman.

Harriman scored the first four points of the second period to pull within 13-9, but Oakdale regrouped and extended their lead to 20-13 by halftime.

Snow and Pease scored 10 points each for Oakdale in the first half while Gallaher led the Lady Devils with seven.

The third period opened with Harriman scoring five straight points to pull within 20-18, but the Lady Devils would never pull even. Things remained close throughout the frame as Oakdale led 28-24 with eight minutes left to play.

Harriman opened the final period with a basket from Marilyn Franklin to pull within 28-26, but again the Lady Devils couldn’t pull even.

Oakdale’s lead hovered between 3-5 points for much of the final period, and Harriman had a chance to tie the game with less than 30 seconds left to play, but they could not get a shot to fall then Oakdale hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to secure the victory.

Snow (18 points, 7 rebounds) and Pease (13 points, 10 rebounds) led the way for Oakdale on the night while Gallaher (15 points) and Madison Duncan (9 points, 11 rebounds) paced Harriman.

Harriman (34) Gallaher 15, Franklin 4, Duncan 9, Boyd 6.

Oakdale (39) Snow 18, Monkhouse 1, Rogers 5, Pease 13, Davidson 2.

Boys Game

After scoring the 2,000th point of his career on Saturday, Harriman’s Xavier Howard got off to a great start toward 2,100 as he scored 30 points in leading the Blue Devils to a 79-69 victory at Oakdale.

Howard, however, wasn’t the story in the early going. That honor belonged to Chase Hamby. Hamby buried three straight three-pointers in leading the Devils to a 19-11 lead after eight minutes of play.

Hamby made it five-for-five from downtown in the second period as he didn’t miss from beyond the arc until he had 15 points on the board.

Howard added 11 points in the first half as the Blue Devils led 41-30 at halftime.

Tyler Steinmetz (7 points) and Colby Miller (6 points) led the way for Oakdale in the first half.

Harriman pretty much delivered the knockout blow early in the third period as the Devils reeled off 12 straight points to take a 53-30 lead. Oakdale, however, didn’t throw in the towel as they outscored Harriman 15-10 over the remainder of the period to make the score 63-45 with eight minutes left to play.

Howard had a huge third quarter for Harriman with 13 points while Jonah DeVaney scored six for Oakdale.

The final period would see Harriman hold a comfortable advantage throughout, but Oakdale would win the frame 24-16 to pull with 10 points at the end.

Besides Howard, Hamby (15 points), Chris Works (13 points) and Jacob Gresham (12 points) scored in double figures for Harriman.

DeVaney (17 points, 13 rebounds), Steinmetz (17 points, 5 rebounds), Michael Lindsay (14 points, 6 rebounds) and Miller (11 points, 9 rebounds) scored in double figures for the Eagles.

Harriman (79) Howard 30, Works 13, Wilkie 2, Gresham 12, Eleam 2, Hamby 15, Wampler 5.

 Oakdale (69) Steinmetz 17, Abernathy 6, Lindsay 14, DeVaney 17, Miller 11, Bingham 4.
