The 2013 tennis season started Tuesday with county rivals Harriman and Rockwood splitting their match at Roane State.
Harriman’s boys opened their season with a 6-3 victory while the Lady Tigers salvaged the split with a 7-2 victory.
Girls
There wasn’t a lot of drama on Tuesday as each match was decided by four games or more.
In singles, there were a total of five matches played with Rockwood winning all but one.
Rockwood’s Alex Patterson, knocked off Harriman’s Kristen Arden 8-1 in the match-up of number ones.
The No. 2 match went to Harriman’s Jill Goldston as she defeated Rockwood’s Darian Edwards, 8-4.
The remaining three matches were won by Lady Tigers as Kristen Jolley beat Leketta Asbury, 8-2; Zoe Hill defeated Amber Frost, 8-3; and Blake Kelley downed Hayle Moore, 8-0.
Rockwood’s Allison Frogg also won a match in singles with a forfeit.
The two teams split a pair of matches in doubles with Rockwood winning a third match via forfeit.
Rockwood’s win came with Edwards and Frogg defeating Frost and Moore, 8-2. Harriman’s win came with Arden and Goldston downing Patterson and Kelley, 8-1.
Boys
The boys’ matches were a bit closer, but in the end it was Harriman winning four matches in singles and two in doubles to claim the 6-3 victory.
In singles, Rockwood’s two wins came in the first two matches as Ryan Hamby defeated Tre Pack, 8-2, in the No. 1 match while Arin Deardorff beat Matt Snow in the No. 2 match, 8-6.
Harriman, however, won the 3-6 matches.
Devan Franklin won his match, 8-1 over Dalton Kirkland; Chase Goldston beat Carson McCullough, 8-2; Bubba Pressley knocked off Tyler Wicks, 8-4; and Henry Thorne beat R.J. Morlock, 8-6.
In doubles, Pressley and Snow defeated Kirkland and McCullough, 8-3, while Pack and Thorne beat Wicks and Morlock, 8-6.
Rockwood’s win came with Hamby and Deardorff beating Franklin and Goldston, 8-4.
