After opening the season with losses in two of their first three games, the Harriman Blue Devils have now won three straight as Travis Tapp's squad traveled to Tellico Plains Friday night and routed the Bears on their homecoming night, 34-0.

“I thought our kids came out and did a good job,” Harriman head coach Travis Tapp said. “It was their homecoming and we knew Tellico would be excited, but I thought our kids reacted well to that and did what they needed to do to win, especially in the second half.”

Like has been the case in all of their victories, Harriman's ground attack was the key to victory. Harriman rushed for more than 300 yards in each of their first three victories this season and Friday night was no different as the Blue Devils amassed 360 yards rushing on 41 carries.

Senior Dimitrique Inman led the way for the Blue Devils as he rushed for 161 yards and three TDs on only 10 carries.

The first half of Friday's game was somewhat strange in that Tellico Plains dominated time of possession, but the Blue Devils dominated total yards and on the scoreboard. The Bears ran 31 plays in the first half for 71 yards while Harriman ran just 14 plays, but tallied 181 yards in taking a 13-0 lead at intermission.

Most of Harriman's yards came on two long runs by Inman.

Inman's first long run of the night came on Harriman's second possession as he capped a five-play, 66-yard drive with a 50-yard run.

Tyler Dishman added the PAT to give the Devils a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Inman's next big run ended the Blue Devils next possession as this time he scored on a 63-yard run that put the finishing touched on a three-play, 85-yard drive.

Dishman's PAT was no good, leaving the score 13-0 midway through the second period.

Harriman took the 13-point lead into the locker room at halftime and they would add to their lead on their first possession of the third period as the Blue Devils marched 55 yards in 10 plays with Inman scoring on a two-yard run to make the score 20-0.

Harriman put the game away on their next possession as QB Mark Chesser hooked up with Mitchell Martin from 20 yards out to cap a six-play, 57-yard drive that made the score 27-0.

The Blue Devils also found the end zone on their first drive of the final period as Tyler Stubbs scored from 18 yards out to put the finishing touches on a four-play, 63-yard drive.

Dishman's PAT would make the final score 34-0.

Harriman's defense was just as impressive as their offense on this night as Larry Sather's unit allowed 107 total yards (79 rushing, 28 passing) in putting together the Blue Devils second straight shutout.

With the victory, Harriman improves to 4-2 overall and they are still perfect in District 3-A at 3-0.

The Blue Devils step out of district next week when they host undefeated Bledsoe County (6-0) at Wallace Black Field.

“We've got to get ready for an undefeated AAA team this week,” Tapp said. “We need to come out and work hard every day to get ready for them.”
