A contract extension for Director of Schools Gary Aytes could be on the agenda at next month’s Roane County Board of Education meeting.
In 2012 the board picked Aytes to succeed Toni McGriff, who retired. Aytes has one-year remaining on a two-year contract.
“I want to thank all the faculty and staff, the administrative staff here for helping me make it through the first year,” Aytes said.
Board Chairman Rob Jago said state law requires at least a 15-day notice for discussions about extending a director’s contract. Jago gave that notice at the June 18 board meeting.
“Tonight as chairman I will give notice the board will discuss extension of director Gary Aytes’ contract at the July 2013 board meeting,” Jago said.
Aytes’ contract pays $110,250. He turned down his contracted $3,000 raise for the 2013-14 school year because the budget doesn’t include across-the-board raises for employees.
Aytes served as the system’s elementary education supervisor prior to becoming the director of schools.
