Bobcats drop two games

The Oliver Springs Bobcats traveled to Sevier County and played a pair of games over the weekend against Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg-Pittman. The games didn’t go as planned, however, as Pigeon Forge knocked off the Bobcats, 37-35, then Gatlinburg-Pittman downed Oliver Springs, 87-56.

The first three quarters of Friday’s game featured little scoring. Neither team scored 10 points in any of the first three frames, as Pigeon Forge took a 22-14 lead into the final period of play.

Oliver Springs caught fire from downtown in the final period, as Collin Moss buried two three-pointers while Aaron Noe added a third.

The three-point barrage wasn’t enough, however, as Pigeon Forge held on for the 37-35 victory.

Noe led Oliver Springs on the night with 17 points.

Oliver Springs vs. Gatlinburg-Pittman

Oliver Springs shot the ball better Saturday afternoon, but the Highlanders couldn’t miss as they cruised to a 31-point victory.

Gatlinburg-Pittman took control early, racing out to a 27-10 lead after eight minutes of play.

Oliver Springs did play better in the second quarter, as they outscored the Highlanders 18-13 in the frame to pull within 41-28 at halftime.

Moss led Oliver Springs in the first half with six points. Lane Evans added five.

The Bobcats weren’t able to keep it up in the second half, however, as Gatlinburg-Pittman won the third period 22-14, and they followed that up with a 24-14 advantage in the final period to make the final score 87-56.

Nine Bobcats scored on the afternoon, led by Justin Nation’s 11 points.

Oliver Springs hosts Meigs County Friday and Berean Christian Saturday as part of the 2013 Oliver Springs Thanksgiving Classic.
