Bowman tells story of American Revolutionary War hero

-A A +A

Travis Bowman tells the story of his seventh-generation ancestor, American Revolutionary War hero Peter Francisco, during a Southwest Point Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution presentation last weekend. At 6 foot, 6 inches, Francisco was called “The Virginian Giant” of the Revolution, and George Washington commissioned a sword specifically for Francisco to use in major battles in both the North and South. Bowman stands at the exact height of his famous ancestor, a Portugal native who was abandoned in the colonies at age 5. Francisco was raised by Judge Anthony Winston, seventh great-grandfather of Southwest Point DAR member Susan Wann, who met Bowman earlier this year and suggested the program for her chapter. Bowman is the author of “Giant of the Revolution” and produced “The Peter Francisco Story,” which is shown nationally on PBS.
