A young up-and-coming musician from Roane County is scheduled to perform at the Tennessee Valley Fair on Saturday.
Thirteen-year-old guitar-player Joey Pierce and his band, the Joey Pierce Project, will open for the Southern Drawl Band.
“He’s like a 30-year-old trapped in a 13-year-old musically,” Joey’s mother, Monica, said. “I’m excited for him. I was really surprised they gave him the opportunity.”
The Tennessee Valley Fair is held at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville. Information on ticket prices and parking can be found at www.tnvalleyfair.org.
Joey and his band are scheduled to take the stage at 7 p.m. He said the performance should last around 45 minutes.
Despite his age, don’t expect any boy-band numbers. Joey is strictly old-school.
“It’s mostly going to be more of a blues, rock genre,” Joey said about what he plans to play. “We’re not going to venture far off from that.”
Though he’s only 13, Joey names classic artists like Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan among his favorites.
“I like a lot of old-school blues and rock stuff,” he said. “One of my favorite bands as far as rock-n-roll goes is Zeppelin.”
The tousle-haired, often-smiling youngster is no stranger to performing.
He’s taken the stage at several places around Knoxville, including Quaker Steak and Lube and Mulligan’s.
“I don’t really get nervous that bad in front of big crowds of people,” he said.
