Kingston’s Darik Brackett will always have fond memories of a great senior season that ended with a faboulous run in the Region 2 Tournament and a berth in the TSSAA Division I State Tournament.

Brackett’s state tournament memories won’t be as good, however, as the 140-pounder dropped his first two matches Thursday in the double elimination tournament.

Brackett drew a tough opponent in the opening round Thursday afternoon as Region 1 champion Nathaniel Parton from Pigeon Forge was his opponent. Parton showed why he was a region champion as he pinned Brackett with just 1:28 left in the contest.

After a break, Brackett took the floor again Thursday evening against Science Hill’s Wes Vaughan.

The Hilltopper junior proved to be one tough nut to crack as he eliminated Brackkett from further competition with a 15-0 victory.

The TSSAA Division I State Tournament concluded on Saturday.
