Canada man crushed in freak accident

A man from Canada died from injuries he sustained when he tried to stop his rolling van in Kingston Saturday.

The Kingston police and fire departments were dispatched to the Motel 6 parking lot on Gallaher Road.   

According to police, they found a man pinned between the door of a Honda Odyssey van and a light pole when they arrived.

Witnesses said the man, William E. Allan, was trying to get back in the van to stop it from rolling.   

“The van hit a curb and this pinned Mr. Allan between the open door of the van and the light pole,” police said in a press release.

Allan was taken by LifeStar to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. where police said he died from his injuries.

Allan, 65, was traveling to Florida.

Police Chief Jim Washam said Allan had stopped at the motel to rent a room.
