Julia H. Daniel will give a report on “Echoes of Emancipation: One Region, Many Voices” during the next Mayme Carmichael School Organization Inc. regular monthly meeting.
The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 in Oliver Springs Municipal Services Annex Building at 906 E. Tri County Blvd.
Daniel attended the “Echoes of Emancipation: One Region, Many Voices” conference on Oct. 4-5 at Tusculum College, Greeneville.
Clara Hughes, Nannie Hopper, the Rev. David Benjamin and Faye Curd will give a report on the recent October Sky Festival in Oliver Springs. Items on the family history of Hughes and Hopper will be displayed.
Daniel said the Mayme Carmichael School Organization Inc. and Little Leaf Baptist Church were honored to be part of the October Sky Festival.
Benjamin provided the history of both the church and the organization. Hopper and Hughes provided their family history, and Daniel provided several quilts made by members of Little Leaf Baptist Church and other members of the community.
Also on display was a picture of the “Story of the Underground Railroad.”
Curd worked with Joe Rosson on antiques appraisals.
