Abused and neglected children need support, and CASA trains volunteers to lend a hand.
CASA — or Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children — has volunteers from all walks of life.
Each volunteer takes a 30-hour training class that prepares them to advocate for children in the court system.
“We are looking for people who care about children and want to make a difference in their lives,” said Peggy Severance, CASA of the Ninth Judicial District program coordinator.
A CASA volunteer advocate investigates, facilitates, advocates and monitors children’s cases which originate in Juvenile Court.
A volunteer training class started Sept. 28. The class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings through Oct. 26.
