'Cats pick up holiday split

The Oliver Springs Bobcats had a lot to be thankful for Friday night, but not so much on Saturday as Tony Ingram’s squad split a pair of games in the 2007 Bobcat Thanksgiving Classic.

Friday night, the Bobcats put on a show as they downed Grundy County, 77-39, but the points were a little tougher to come by Saturday eve-ning as Berean Christian handed the Bobcats a 55-53 setback.

If the game between Oliver Springs and Grundy County were in the confides of a boxing ring, it would have been a first round knockout as the Bobcats rolled to 37-6 halftime lead to cruise to a convincing 77-39 win Friday night.

In the opening period, the Bobcats scored the first 11 points to get out to an early 19-6 lead.

During the second period, the Bobcats played flawless basketball, rolling to an 18-0 run through the entire period to take a 37-6 lead to the locker room.

The third period saw Grundy County outscore the Bobcats 22-19 as the one bright note of their evening, but in the final period, it was all Oliver Springs as they scored the final 13 points of the game to roll to a 77-39 victory.

Where Oliver Springs did the biggest chunk of their damage was on the boards, completely dominating the Yellow Jackets with a decisive 47-19 advantage on the boards.

Several Bobcat players had huge nights scoring, with the leader being Dan Schultz with 15 points plus six boards along with his tag team partner on the hardwood, Tyler Carter with 14 points plus two blocks. Also reaching double digits was Eli Woods with 12 points.

Other with big nights included Tyler Harper and Tyler Evans each with seven points.

Grundy County was led by Johnny Braden with 12 points on the evening.

Oliver Springs vs. Berean Christian

Tony Ingram’s Oliver Springs Bobcats team faced off against the Berean Christian Golden Eagles, but the ‘Cats were skinned by the Eagles in a heartbreaking 55-53 loss.

Berean Christian was led by the one man wrecking crew named James Rechenbach with 24 points for the Golden Eagles.

The game started off with Berean Christian starting out on a 13-5 run, but the Bobcats managed to cut the gap to 16-12 at the end of the open-ing period.

In the second period, Oliver Springs would briefly get out to a slim lead but the Golden Eagles had an 8-0 run to take a 33-28 lead to the half.

During the third period, both teams deadlocked at 11-11 for the period and that made the score 44-39 at the end of period number three.

The final period saw Oliver Springs cut the gap to two points, but they couldn’t get any closer as they fell by a 55-53 score. The Golden Eagles were led by Rechenbach’s 24 points, six boards and four assists.

Other leading scorers for Berean Christian were Rob Graham with 10 points plus five assists and Aaron Clevenger had 10 points and eight boards.

Oliver Springs was led in scoring by Dan Schultz with 14 points, Wesley Rather with nine points, Tyler Carter had nine points with seven boards and a block while Jordan Murray had seven points on the night.
