Charlie V. Phillips, 85, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.

Born May 14, 1922, in the New River area, he had lived in Oliver Springs since 1969. He worked both as a logger and coal miner in area coal mines, saw mills and log woods.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Kennedy Phillips; parents, Fletcher and Bessie Graham Phillips; grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn Phillips and Agbert Ray Phillips II; brother; Carl Phillips; and sister, Mae Phillips Bunch.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Billie and Terry Madden of Elberton, Ga., Glenna Phillips and Roy and Shirley Phillips, all of Oliver Springs, Phyllis and Jimmy Richardson of Indiana and Linda Phillips and Mike of Kingston; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Denia Phillips of Lake City, Agbert Phillips, Avery and Melissa Phillips, Albert Phillips, Danny Phillips and Vernal Phillips and Linda, all of Oliver Springs; Eugene and Ruby Phillips and Irvin Phillips and Teresa, all of Clinton, Eddie Phillips of Wartburg and Charles Phillips of Oak Ridge; 32 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, special friends and extended family members.

Funeral service was at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Sharp Funeral Home chapel, Oliver Springs, with the Rev. Houston Carroll and the Rev. Murl Phillips officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Clinton.
