The Cherokee Middle Yellow Jackets made short work of the Midway Middle Green Wave rolling to a 36-0 win last week at Midway.

Cherokee pulled out to a 16-0 lead after the first quarter and then led 28-0 at halftime. The Yellow Jackets coasted through the final two quarters and got the 36-0 win.

Two Cherokee players were responsible for almost all the points.

Maurice Lane scored on a 48-yard run and hauled in a Brandon Plemons pass for another 67-yard touchdown. Lane topped it off with a 90-yard interception return for six more points.

Not to be outdone, Tommy Jordan scored on a 52-yard run and he returned an interception for 95 yards for the Jackets.

Lane, Jordan, and Plemons also added two-point runs after three of the touchdowns.

Cherokee racked up 154 yards rushing on 18 carries. Lane was leader with 91 yards on eight carries. Jordan had 62 yards on only four runs.

Statistically Midway was not as bad as the score indicated.

The Green Wave tallied 97 yards on 39 carries. Zane Moser was the leader with 41 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Skyan Lyle ran 12 times for 29 yards and hit one of four passes for 38 yards, while Drake Romines picked up 21 yards on eight carries and also caught the pass for a 38-yard gain.

Midway also punched into Cherokee six times, but could not finish the drives.

After the opening TD run by Lane, Midway drove to the Cherokee 31, but lost nine yards on three plays and that was followed by a short punt out of bounds.

This was followed by the Plemons-to-Lane pass that resulted in a 67-yard touchdown.

Lyle then returned the kickoff to the Cherokee 34, but again Midway couldn't finish. Moser fumbled on the third play at the 29.

Cherokee notched one first down, but ran out of downs four plays later at their own 44. Midway inched forward to the 40, but they also ran out of downs at that point.

Cherokee then got a 52-yard run from Jordan to go up 22-0.

With time running out in the half, Lyle fired deep but Lane intercepted the pass and returned it 90 yards for the touchdown as time ran out in the half.

The Green Wave first drive of the second half reached the Cherokee 21 before a fumble turned the ball over to the Yellow Jackets.

Midway got it back on the second play when Quinn Parton intercepted Plemons pass.

Midway drove inside the Jacket 10 before Jordan picked off a pass and returned it 95 yards for the score to finish off the scoring.

Cherokee improved to 2-0 with the win while Midway drops to 1-1.

Both teams were in action again on Tuesday as Cherokee hosted Coalfield while Midway visited Sunbright. Cherokee will play at Jefferson Thursday while Midway will be off until next Thursday when they travel to Harriman.
