The circumstances surrounding the death of a 2-year-old Roane County boy remain under investigation, but authorities have determined a cause of death.
An autopsy was conducted on Clifford Dotson on Friday. Roane County Sheriff’s Office investigator Art Wolff said preliminary findings indicate the boy died of severe malnutrition.
Wolff said he was notified at 4:50 a.m. on May 3 that a mother had taken a toddler to Fort Loudoun Medical Center in Lenoir City.
Wolff said the toddler was dead on arrival.
Wolff said the boy lived with his parents, Amanda and Matthew Dotson, at 180 Lerchen Road, which is off of Hwy. 70 in East Roane County.
The parents have been interviewed, Wolff said, but no arrests have been made.
“My findings will be presented to the grand jury,” he said.
The next meeting of the Roane County grand jury is in June.
Wolff said another child who was in care of the Dotsons is now being looked after by the Department of Children’s Services.
