-A A +A

“Grow Your Own Groceries From Seed to Shelf” is the topic of the next free community workshop offered by the University of Tennessee Master Gardeners of Roane County.

The Sept. 24 workshop will be led by  Roane County Extension Agent Grant Palmer,  Anderson County Extension Agent Heather Guinn and area Master Gardeners.

These session leaders will teach workshop participants about soils, starting plants from seed, fall vegetable gardening, putting the garden to bed in the fall and overall approaches to and techniques for home gardening.

The afternoon portion of the workshop will be dedicated to methods of canning, freezing and preserving garden vegetables and fruits.

Preregistration is required for the free workshop; lunch will be provided for a fee of $7. Call Judy Rose, Roane County Master Gardener, at 376-4444 for details.

Although the workshop is free, donations to Master Gardeners of Roane County will be accepted at the program to further Master Gardener activities.

A limited number of rain barrel kits will be available for purchase.
