The Midway Lady Green Waves wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming District 3-A Tournament Thursday evening with a 10-0 victory over visiting Harriman.
Midway will now look to capture the regular season title outright as the Lady Waves play Harriman again Monday and then they visit Greenback Wednesday to conclude the regular season portion of their district schedule. A win in either of those games would leave Midway alone atop the District 3-A standings.
If it is left up to Midway pitcher Hannah Colyer there won’t be any doubt after Monday. Colyer whipped a no-hitter with only one walk and nine strikeouts past Harriman in the 10-0 win. The Lady Devils will undoubtedly see Colyer again Monday.
Harriman’s Lindsey Higgins was sharp through the first three innings, but saw everything fall apart in the fourth when Midway scored seven runs. Higgins allowed seven hits and six walks. She struck out six also. Three Harriman errors allowed three runs to be scored.
Midway punched in a run in the top of the first inning.
Alex Coffman led off with a single, but was thrown out at third later in the inning. Krystal Rue struck out, but Colyer singled then Kati Alexander struck out for what should have been the third out of the inning, but reached first on a passed ball.
The extra out hurt Harriman as Colyer's courtesy runner, Kayla Roberts, would score on a Taylor Narramore single.
Harriman’s Moriah Anderson nearly ruined Colyer's no-hitter when she led off the bottom of the first with a short pop up over third base, but Lady Wave shortstop Danielle Borum made a great shoestring catch to get the out.
Harriman did not threaten again until the fourth inning when Tori McGowen drew a walk.
The only other base runner the Lady Devils would get came in the fifth when Kayla Pressley reached first on a Colyer error. Colyer then struck out McGowen to end the game.
Midway picked up two runs in the third and led only 3-0 at that point.
Rue singled to begin the inning and Colyer drew a walk. Alexander struck out, but Rue scored on a passed during the at bat. Narramore bounced out at second, but pushed in Roberts who was again courtesy running for Colyer.
The Lady Waves put the game away in the fourth with a seven-run inning to take a 10-0 lead.
Paige Moree led it off with a single and after an out, Haley Patterson reached on an error that scored Moree.
Harriman would record the second out then the flood gates opened. Rue walked and Colyer singled to drive in Patterson and Rue. Walks to Kati Alexander and Narramore loaded the bases then Michelle Walden drove a single almost to the center field fence to drive in Roberts and Alexander. Moree picked up her second hit of the inning and drove in Narramore. Borum walked for the second time in the inning and Walden scored on a passed ball during the at bat.
Patterson struck out to end the inning.
Midway's bench took over in the fifth, but could not push in any insurance runs.
