The first nail in the coffin.
That’s the way Roane County Commissioner Jerry Goddard described Monday night’s vote on a resolution that could eventually give the commission the power to abolish the office of constable in the county.
After a lengthy, lively debate, the resolution passed 11-4.
“You’re not voting the first nail in the coffin,” commissioner Bobby Collier said. “I swear you’re not, Jerry.”
