Copper thieves taking risks

Thieves have become gutsy even while the possibility of electrocution dangles above them.

They have been targeting utility companies and cutting copper wires at electric substations.

Officials blame it on the price per pound of copper rising, due to high demand in other countries.

As of Thursday, the price per pound was $3.53. At the beginning of 2006, that price was just slightly more than $2.
