Roane County could be taking over some TVA land.
County Executive Ron Woody said the quasi-federal agency has approached the county about operating the Riley Creek campground.
“Roane County will need to apply, and we still must approve, but we have said we are willing to consider and we think it is a good idea,” TVA spokesman Travis Brickey said.
The campground is south of Kingston behind Anglers Cove subdivision.
A resolution authorizing Woody to sign a license agreement for occupancy and use of the land is on the agenda for the March 14 commission meeting.
“We offered a revocable license to them to operate the campground,” Brickey said. “As a public entity they would not pay TVA. They would be responsible for expenses to operate and maintain the campground.
According to the resolution, the campground has 45 camping sites, a boat ramp, bath houses, swimming areas and a waste dump station.
“Riley Creek Campground’s availability for recreation use will be a tremendous asset for local recreation and tourism,” the resolution states. “The Riley Creek Campground has had intensive capital improvement recently completed by TVA.”
