James and Louise Evans of Rockwood will be honored in singing and celebration on April 21 for their more than 56 years of service to Greiver’s Chapel Baptist Church in the Ozone community.

Their son, Dudley Evans, has planned the special occasion to start at 6 p.m. in the church.

The Evans Family, an area gospel group consisting of Dudley Evans and his children, will host the singing. Special guest performances are planned by Johnny Hamilton, the Dave Raby Trio, James Brown Randy Kinkannon from Etowah and a special surprise group from Dayton.

“It’s a special time to honor Jim and Louise with a special proclamation from all who love them,” said Dudley Evans, who also serves as interim pastor at Greiver’s Chapel. “Everyone who has known the Evans family are encouraged to come and help celebrate this outstanding service to their church and family.”

Dudley Evans said he hopes to “fill the house that night.”

“In years past, the singings held at the church were noted as some of the best around,” he said. “To fill the house would mean the world to the elder mom and dad who have given their entire latter years in service to the assembly there.”

The singing will last about two hours. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall afterward.

Greiver’s Chapel Baptist Church is one mile off Dogwood Road in Rockwood’s Ozone community in Cumberland County.
