Elizabeth R. “Lizzy” Easter of Rockwood is the award-winning artist whose work is featured on the cover of “Read Our Word, Hear Our Voice: Anthology of Poetry, Essays and Short Stories.”

The Roane State Community College student’s drawing was selected as the winner of a Roane Writers Group art competition and was announced earlier this year in a ceremony in front of Easter’s classmates.

The anthology contains submissions from the Roane Writers Group’s third annual Roane County Student Writing Contest.

Judges said Easter’s drawing was selected because of its technical excellence and artistic interpretation of the anthology’s title.

Easter received a letter of appreciation and a copy of the anthology with her award-winning drawing.

A 2011 honors graduate of Rockwood High School, she is the daughter of Ray and Julie Easter.

When Easter received her award, in the audience was Trisha Davidson, a Midway High School graduate whose poem appears in the book. Davidson, who is taking classes at Roane State, also received a copy of the anthology.

Through the sponsorship of Chainbooks.com of Knoxville, the printer of the anthology, the Roane Writers Group is able to give a copy of the book to each of the student winners whose work appears in the anthology.

The anthology is on display in the Kingston Public Library and can be purchased for a $10 donation. Proceeds are used to support the annual student writing contest and help Roane County students become published.
