Dems planning annual Labor Day picnic

Brandon Pettbrese will be the keynote speaker for the Roane County Democratic Party’s annual East Tennessee Labor Day Picnic.

Puttbrese is communications director for the Tennessee Democratic Party.

The picnic will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 2 in shelter 2 at Roane County Park, Midtown.

Mike McWherter, son of former Gov. Ned McWherter, is also on the ticket to speak. The younger McWherter is a West Tennessee businessman and was the 2010 Democratic candidate for Tennessee governor.

Also slated to speak is Larry Washam, retired coordinator of the International Assocation of Machinists. A United Auto Workers representative from Region 8 has also been invited.

Tickets are $10 per person; ages younger than 12 are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the picnic or may be purchased in advance by calling 332-1289.
