Deputy awarded Medal of Valor

Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Smith has no idea what the water temperature was at 5 a.m. on Nov. 18. 
 “I just know it was cold, very cold.” he said
The chill didn’t stop him from entering Watts Bar Lake to help a man who drove his car into the water.
“That was just my initial reaction,” Smith said. “Go in and try to save the guy.”
The man was saved, and Smith was recently honored for his heroic efforts.
