The Harriman Blue Devils traveled to Knoxville Monday and picked up a 69-55 victory over Tennessee School for the Deaf (TSD).
Harriman showed tremendous balance Monday as five players scored in double figures. Xavier Howard led the way with 16 points while Chase Hamby (11 points), Jacob Gresham (11 points), Chase Randolph (10 points) and Alex Wampler (10 points) rounded out Harriman’s double-digit scorers.
Hunter Jenkins nearly gave the Blue Devils a sixth player in double figures as he ended the evening with nine points on three three-pointers.
Monday’s game was close after one quarter, as Harriman led 12-8, but the Blue Devils used a big second period to blow things open. Behind nine points from Howard and six each from Hamby and Randolph, Harriman outscored the Vikings 25-10 in the frame to take a 37-18 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was a tight one, but that allowed Harriman to maintain their big lead. The Blue Devils outscored the Vikings 16-14 in the frame to take a 21-point lead into the final period of play.
TSD’s Ethan Swafford had a huge third quarter, burying three three-pointers and scoring nine points. Swafford was even hotter in the final period as he dialed long distance four times.
Swafford’s hot hand allowed the Vikings to chip seven points off Harriman’s lead in the final period, making the final score 69-55.
Swafford led all scorers on the night with seven three-pointers and 26 points. Kelsey Holmes (11 points) and Tory Lipford (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Vikings.
Harriman’s girls did not play Monday, but will play Saturday when the Blue Devils and Lady Devils host Berean Christian.
