The race for community bragging right gets under way Friday afternoon with the opening of the 2009 Dixie Youth Tournaments.
Two different age groups, A (5-6 year-old players) and AA (7-8 year-old players) will begin play Friday at Spring City and Rockwood while the AAA (9-10 year-old players) and Majors (11-12 year-old players) tournaments will begin later this summer.
The A sub-district tournament starts Friday evening in Rockwood at 6 p.m. with a total of four games on the schedule.
Two games will take place at 6 p.m. with Caryville taking on Oak Ridge American while Kingston takes on Spring City. Two more games will start at approximately 7:30 p.m. with Lake City taking on Rockwood in one contest while Harriman battles Oak Ridge National in the other game.
The tournament will continue Saturday with a total of seven games being played. Game times for Saturday are 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Weather permitting, the tournament will continue Monday and conclude on Tuesday.
The schedule is similar at Spring City, the site of the AA tournament.
A total of three games will be played Friday with two games being played at 6 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m.
Harriman will take on Kingston at 6 p.m. while Rockwood battles Oak Ridge at the same time. Caryville will play Lake City at 7:30 p.m. with Spring City receiving a first round bye.
Six games will be played Saturday with game times set for 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7 p.m.
The AA tournament continues Monday and ends on Tuesday.
The top two teams in the A and AA Tournament will advance to the District 8 Tournament that starts next weekend.
The AAA sub-district tournament will begin on Friday, June 26 in Kingston. Six teams will compete in Kingston with Rockwood, Harriman and Kingston representing Roane County.
There will not be a sub-district tournament in Majors, only the District 8 Tournament that begins Friday, July 3 in Rockwood.
Rockwood and Harriman will be among the six teams competing in Rockwood.
Kingston is the host of the Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament and will not compete in the district tournament.
