Greenback, Tellico Plains, Spring City and Tellico Plains will all be hopping this week, as all will be hosting Dixie Youth district tournaments at some point over the next five days.
Greenback and Tellico Plains will be busy early in the week, as the Dixie Youth District 8 A and AA tournaments are set to conclude. Both tournaments started Friday and are set to conclude on Tuesday. Both tournaments, however, are round robin tournaments with five teams participating, and both could run into Wednesday if there any ties that need broken.
Harriman, Rockwood and Kingston are all represented, as Rockwood and Kingston are playing in the A tourney at Tellico Plains while Harriman is playing in the AA tourney at Greenback.
Starting Friday, the District 8 AAA Tournament and District 8 “O” Zone Tournament will begin with AAA action taking place in Sweetwater while the “O” Zone tourney is being played in Spring City.
Unlike the A and AA tourneys, the AAA and “O” Zone tourneys are not round robin tourneys.
In AAA, there will be a total of eight teams playing with Kingston playing Tellico Plains, Rockwood battling Greenback and Harriman taking on Madisonville in opening round action.
In “O” Zone play, only Harriman and Kingston will be representing Roane County. Rockwood will be playing Tellico Plains while Harriman takes on Greenback in the opening round.
The top two teams in each district tournament will then advance to the Dixie Youth State Tournament.
The A and AA state tournament will be held in Jackson beginning on Thursday, July 11. The AAA and “O” Zone state tournament will begin on July 18. The AAA state tourney will be played in Sweetwater with the “O” Zone tourney being held in Dyersburg.
The following weekend will see Rockwood hosting the Dixie Youth AA Region I World Series. A total of 16 teams from four states will be in Roane County for that tournament.
