Some changes took place last week in the race for Roane County circuit court clerk.

Randy Ellis withdrew from the race, and Sarah E. Stewart turned in her petition.

Ann Goldston, who currently works in the office as a deputy clerk, is the only other candidate to qualify for the race.

Ron Berry, Raymond Murray and Darrell Wayne Sproles have picked up petitions, but had yet to turn them in, according to the Roane County Election Commission website.

The filing deadline is April 3. The withdrawal deadline is April 10.

Ellis currently represents District 2 on the Roane County Commission. He sent out a press release, which said he’s now planning to seek re-election to his commission seat.

Incumbent 9th Judicial District Public Defender Joe Walker also turned in his petition last week.

Harriman Attorney Harold Balcom is also running for public defender.

Election Day is Aug. 7.
