Enrichment credit union kicking off Gloves of Love

-A A +A

Enrichment Federal Credit Union’s Roane County Branch will soon begin collecting gloves, hats and scarves for school children in Roane County through its annual Gloves of Love campaign.

Many children go to school without warm coverings for their heads and hands, and the credit union aims to keep the children warm during the cold months of the year.

“If children’s heads and hands are not properly covered when they are outdoors, they have a greater chance of getting sick and missing school,” said Becky Woody, Roane County branch manager of Enrichment Federal Credit Union.

The campaign began in 2009. This year’s drive will take place from Nov. 13-Dec. 7.

“We want to do our part to help the children stay warm and healthy as we go into the holiday season,” Woody added. “We collected 1,200 items last year and, with the help of our community, our goal is to do more than 1,500 this year.”

Monetary donations will also be accepted to purchase items for those who don’t have time to stop and pick up something.

“The community can work together to make sure the local school children are protected from the cold and wind of wintertime,” Woody said.

“Just one hat or pair of gloves that can benefit a child is priceless when it helps keep that child warm.”

The credit union will present the items to six schools in Roane County for distribution before the children leave for the holidays.

“The items collected by the credit union will last far beyond the holiday season and make a lasting difference for a child,” Woody said. “The credit union is making Gloves of Love an annual event and is calling on everyone in the community to make it a success and help as many children as possible.”
