Money raised goes to scholarship fund

By Dwane Wilder

Members of all eight of Roane County’s Family and Community Education clubs hosted a Christmas Ideas Fair last week at Kingston.

Proceeds from the fair, which has been an annual event since the 1950s, go toward a scholarship awarded each spring to a deserving high school senior from Roane County.

It’s the only fundraiser of the year for the FCE groups.

Everything is donated by the members, so 100 percent of the sale of items goes into the scholarship fund.

The fair features a variety of Christmas gift ideas including handmade dolls, quilts, decorations and canned goods along with baked goods and treats.

Roane County FCE groups participating in the fair included: Trash to Treasures, Rockwood, Bradbury, Rural Mixers, You Are Homemakers, Town and Country, Crafty Corners and Emory/South Harriman.

Around 70 FCE members were involved with putting on the fair.

The FCE, formerly known as the Home Demonstration Club, is affiliated with the University of Tennessee Extension Service.
