Mike Kelly interacts with a cockatoo that was confiscated from a Morgan County meth lab. The bird, which officials say lost much of its plumage because of toxic fumes, has found a new home in Roane County. The Roane County Animal Shelter gave the bird to Rockwood’s One Stop Pet Shop, where owners are doing their best to help the stricken bird regain its feathers. “That is the effect of meth on an animal. Can you imagine what it would do to a human being?” asked Councilwoman Peggy Evans, who rents the building to One Stop Pet Shop on Front Avenue. Co-owner Joe Clapp said Evans likes the bird and visits it often. Clapp said the pet store needs help with the bird’s medical expenses.
