Joyce Pope Mayton

Joyce Pope Mayton, 70, of Kingston, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2008, at the home of her daughter.

A 70-year member of First Christian Church, she had been a practicing licensed-practical nurse for 45 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl “Monk” Mayton; and parents, Hastings and Ethel Pope.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Chris Epton of Kingston; sons and daughters-in-law, Conny Carl and Lori Mayton of Kingston and Travis Lee and Becky Mayton of Harriman; grandchildren, Kristy Cantrell, Courtney Fowler, Randi “Niki” Mayton and Alex H. May-ton, all of Kingston, Dreama Feezell and Candace Mayton, both of Harriman, and Lacey Crabtree of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Matthew Cantrell of Kingston and Braxton Crabtree of Knoxville; and a host of special friends.

Funeral service was at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in Harriman First Christian Church, with Joe Wilner and Nathan Williams officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Willard Park Cemetery, Harriman. Kyker Funeral Home, Harriman, was in charge of arrangements.

Donna Jean Scarborough

Donna Jean Scarborough, 50, of Rockwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at her home.

A mother and grandmother who enjoyed many different hobbies, she always put family first.

She was preceded in death by mother, Mary Sue Monroe; and daughter, Tara Lynn Holt.

Survivors include sons, Raymond J. Holt and Christopher Michael Holt, both of Marion, Ark., Scott Adam Holt, Dustin Nicholas Scarborough and Paul Ryan Scarborough, all of Rockwood, and Bryan Dewayne Scarborough of Knoxville; grandchildren, Raymond J. Holt Jr., Michael Trey Holt, Logan Adam Holt, Christopher Dylan Condery, Mallory Elizabeth Holt and Tara Leigh Leslie Holt; sister, Suzie Sorensen of Marion; brothers, Jimmy Monroe of Hughes, Ark., Danny Monroe, Tommy Monroe and William Monroe, all of Marion; and uncle, J.W. Mooneyhan.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in Evans Mortuary chapel, Rockwood, with the Rev. Dudley Evans officiating. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rockwood.

Ruben Charles Smith

Ruben Charles Smith, 51, of Harriman, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.

He was involved with working with troubled teens at Camelot Schools, Kingston.

He was preceded in death by parents, Aubrey R. Smith Sr. and Betty Louise Cole.

Survivors include brother, Aubrey R. Smith II; sisters, Mary Lee Neal, Sarah F. Smith, Calma Lou Adkisson and Mandy Goessling; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and loved ones.

A celebration of life was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in Riverside Baptist Church, Harriman, with the Rev. Richard Jones officiating. A private burial service will be at a later date. Davis Funeral Home, Harriman, was in charge of arrangements.
