Gene Ice will discuss “X-ray and Neutron Optics for Spatially-Resolved Characterization of Materials” during the May 16 luncheon meeting of Friends of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Ice is director of the Materials Science and Technology Division, an ORNL Corporate Fellow, a fellow of the American Physical Society and an ASM International Fellow.

His research interests include diffuse scattering to characterize short-range atomic correlations and defects in materials, x-ray micro/nanobeam optics, and advanced microfocusing optics for spatially-resolved neutron scattering.

The meeting starts with socializing at 11 a.m. in the  UT Resource Center at 1201 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge. Lunch is $7 per person and will follow at 11:30. The meeting is expected to adjourn by 1 p.m.
