Summer months are difficult for several businesses — and the same is true for Medic Regional Blood Center, the community blood provider.
The organization struggles to reach the daily quota of donors necessary to adequately supply hospitals, said Christi Fightmaster of Medic public relations.
“Families are busier than usual with kids out of school and planning vacations,” she said. “However, there’s more activities in our area which, unfortunately, can lead to accidents where blood is needed.”
Roane County donors can do their part during a blood drive today, July 11, at Harriman Food City at 1130 S. Roane St.
A Medic mobile unit will be on site from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Donors can also give blood at Medic donors centers at 1601 Ailor Ave., Knoxville, or 11000 Kingston Pike, Farragut.
Now through Labor Day, all donors who give blood will receive a coupon for a free chicken sandwich and be eligible for a chance to win a pair of Tennessee Smokies tickets good for any regular season home game.
Donors must be 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more. With parental consent, 16-year-olds weighing 120 pounds or more may donate blood. Consent forms can be found at any blood drive or online at www.medicblood.org.
All donors must present identification.
Medic is the sole provider of blood and blood products to 28 area hospitals throughout East Tennessee and Southeast Kentucky.
Additional blood drive locations can be found at www.medicblood.org or by calling 524-3074.
