Green Wave, Eagles tie on gridiron

The Oakdale Eagles and the Midway Green Wave battled last Friday and if anything was settled, it was these two teams are pretty even.
Neither team could get going on offense in the early going.  Both teams made plenty of mistakes on offense and the defenses played tough. Midway finally struck for six on the 37th play of the game when junior Mason Woody raced 48 yards for the games first score. Four plays later the Green Wave struck again when Woody hit Jon Beason for a 49 yard touchdown.
The Eagles finally got on the board on their next possession when senior quarterback Aaron Powers hit Brett Daugherty for a 21 yard touchdown. The Eagles defense then forced a turnover when senior Landon Botkin recovered a Midway fumble to keep the Eagle momentum going.
It didn’t take the Eagles long to strike again as Powers hooked up with Logan Cox for the longest play of the evening. The play covered 80 yards and the scrimmage was knotted up at two.
After roughly 50 plays for each offense both teams then went to some situational plays with down and distance and wrapped up what was a successful scrimmage for both teams.
The Eagles will rely heavily on senior Aaron Powers this fall. Powers was 21-32 in the scrimmage with touchdown passes early on to Brett Daugherty and then the bomb to Logan Cox. Powers did have a couple of turnovers.
The Eagles will meet up with Tellico Plains on Thursday in their second scrimmage of the fall. The Eagles will then compete in a jamboree that they will host on August 16th.
Oakdale opens the season at home Aug. 23 against Sale Creek.
Midway will also scrimmages this week when they host a three-way affair on Friday. The Green Wave will play the following Friday, Aug. 16 against Wartburg in the 2013 Roane County Jamboree.
Midway opens the regular season with a trip to Tri-Cities Christian on Friday, Aug. 23.
