Some people simply love what they do.

For Kingston head coach Connie Guinn, she loves teaching the game of basketball and that’s just what she was doing last week at the 2011 Roane County Girls Basketball Camp.

“It was great,” Guinn said after camp ended on Thursday. “I love being in the gym and teaching these future basketball players the game I love.”

For Guinn, the focus of last week’s camp could be described in one word.

“Fundamentals,” she said. “Somewhere that gets lost a lot of times, but it’s hard to play this game if you don’t know how to dribble, pass and shoot. You have to know the fundamentals to be successful.”

The focus on fundamentals meant a lot of individual drills that Guinn says the campers can practice at home.

“A lot of the things we work on you don’t even need a goal or ball to do,” Guinn said. “You can work on ball handling without a goal and there are a lot of agility drills players can do at home that will help them in any sport they play.”
