Harriman Care and Rehab given five stars

Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center, a Signature HealthCARE facility, has climbed into the top tier of the nation’s nursing homes by receiving the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ coveted five-star ranking.

The facility, at 240 Hannah Road, is the latest and 13th to join the ranks of Signature’s five-star buildings.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awards the rating to only the top 10 percent of nursing homes.

Signature’s other five-star facilities are Trimble County, Washington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, SHC of Erin, Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center, SHC of Orange Park, Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center, Bracken County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton County Care and Rehabilitation Center, Pickett Care and Rehabilitation Center, SHC of Marietta, SHC at Mallard Bay and SHC of Spencer County.

“Signature has continually improved the quality of care provided in its buildings, which has translated to better CMS ratings,” said Brenda Weatherly of Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center’s marketing and admissions.

“The company has more than doubled its number of four- and five-star buildings, from 15 in January 2009, which is roughly when CMS launched the Nursing Home Compare ratings system, to 33 — nearly half of Signature’s buildings,” she said. “Meanwhile, the number of one- and two-star buildings has dropped from 40 to 23.”

Under the five-star rating system, nursing homes are assessed in three categories: health inspections, quality measures and staffing. The overall rating combines scores received in each of the three categories.

The system is intended to help consumers, families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and identify areas about which they would like to learn more.
