After splitting their season series in a pair of close games, the Harriman Lady Blue Devils and Rockwood Lady Tigers met again Saturday for the third time with a berth in the District 3-A Tournament championship game and although the first two games were close, the third match-up was a rout as Harriman cruised to a 66-43 victory.

Saturday’s victory didn’t come as a surprise to Lady Devil fans as their squad had entered the tournament on a roll. The Lady Devils entered Saturday’s contest with six wins in their last seven games.

The first three minutes of the contest were played to a 5-5 tie, but the rest of the contest belonged to the Lady Devils. Harriman closed the opening period with a 16-6 run to take a 21-11 lead after eight minutes of play.

Moriah Anderson led Harriman with five points in the opening period while Kiersten Douglass, Shantel Boyd and Jasmine Fuqua scored four each.

Rockwood’s Amanda Hackler also scored five points in the opening period.

Harriman opened the second period with a 6-1 run to take a 15-point lead and that’s the lead they held until halftime as the Lady Devils led 32-17 at intermission.

Six players scored for Harriman in the second period while Rockwood’s Kaylah Powell led all scorers in the period with five points.

Any thoughts of a Lady Devil comeback were quickly put to rest in the third period as Harriman opened the second half with a 10-3 run that made the score 42-20. Harriman would add another point to their lead by the end of the period and then the two teams battled to a 15-all tie in the final period.

Four players scored in double figures on the afternoon with Douglass (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Anderson (12 points, 6 assists, 3 steals) leading the charge. Shakira Boyd (10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and Shantel Boyd (10 points, 4 steals, 3 assists) were close behind.

Powell led all scorers on the night with 14 points.
